POSITIONS HELD

IN SPITE OF HOWITZER BOMBARDMENT. PARIS, November 6. This morning’s communique states that there was local artillery activity at several points. The French today maintained a firm grip of Foerbach and Saarguemineii, five miles in advance of the Maginot Line, against which German howitzers have thundered, sending 300 shells in the past four days. Children in the Alsatian towns of Mulhouse and Colmar, within range of German guns, have returned to school because of enemy inactivity on this sector. Both towns are humming with military activity.
