COUNTY COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING. ("Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Eketahuna County Council there were pre-1 sent Crs J. B. Carruthers (chairman).! C. T. Richardson, P. Davies, G. Houl-| brooke, F. Goggin, C. Davie. R. and H. Kebbell, R. Dougherty and A. J. Perry. On the motion of the Chairman leave of absence was granted Cr G. Baillie. A letter was received from the Department of Agriculture re noxious weeds on roads, stating that at a meeting on October 18 authority was delegated to County Councils. Cr Carruthers: “That does not altei our position as authority was delegated to us by the Board and their lettei doesn’t answer our query at all. Apparently we have to take full control.' It was eventually decided that the Department be written to asking that notices to clear be issued earlier. Cr Richardson referred to the claim for royalty on metal taken from the blue pit. He said councillors had treated the Masterton Borough Council claim at last meeting in a flippant manner. He thought that the amount offered was hardly enough and in all fairness he thought it should be increased. He moved that £l5 be offered in settlement The motion was carried.
It was decided "That the agreement now existing between the County Council and ratepayers of the Saunders Road in the Alfredton Riding be suspended for the period of the war and six months after, and that no further contribution be collected in connection therewith pending a final decision by the Council."
BUSH CRICKET WIN FOR EKETAHUNA. Eketahuna defeated Mangamaire at Mangamaire on Saturday by an innings and 23 runs. Scores: — Mangamaire, first innings. 54- (J. Mabey 21). Bowling: J. Tredray 5 for 19, F. Robinson 2 for 8. E. Francois 2 for 9, W. Leith 1 for 6. Second innings 75 (W. Jensen 17, D. Keen 13, M. Fredricksen 11, J. Mabey 12). Bowling: J. Tredray 1 for 11. F. Robinson 2 for 14, R. Hornblow 3 for 8, J. Dix 2 for 11. W. Leith 1 for 3, E. Francois 1 for 1. Eketahuna, first innings. 152 for 7 wickets, declared (J. Tredray 79, W. Leith 31, E. Francois 22). Bowling: M. Fredrickson 2 for 34, R. Hirst 3 for 33 J. Welch 1 for 34. Highways Maintenance. The county engineer reported as follows concerning highways maintenance, to the monthly meeting of the County Council: No 63 Highway—Masterton—Webber.— During the month, the length of this Highway from Alfredton to the foot of the Summit, was graded and trimmed. The metalled section over the -Summit was patched with crushed metal. In general the surface sustained little damage during the period. No 62 Highway Eketahuna Alfredton.—A heavy rain storm struck the Dunderdale’s Hill section and some scouring took place. This damage was made good and a small breastwork placed to repair a breakaway. No 477 Highway —Eketahuna —Nireaha. — The patching work on the sealed section was completed and at date the surface appears to be standing fairly well under traffic. No 442 Highway—Mangaone Valley.—The surface has been graded during the period, and watertables at several sections cleaned out. Services Accepted. Mr Noel Mason, of the staff of Messrs D P Ryan and Sons, will go into camp on November 27. having been accepted for service as a Flight-mechanic.
