BOWLING CONTESTS SEVERAL ENJOYABLE GAMES. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a fair muster of members of the Carterton Bowling Club on the green on Saturday. The day was -not a pleasant one. but the green notwithstanding the heavy rain played very well. The afternoon tea arrangements b were under the supervision of Mesdames Barr and Hawker, who provided a dainty repast and were accord- t ed a vote of thanks for their efforts. The first match for the Taylor-Rolph £ Penants was played and the initial holders retained the trophy by a fair margin of points. The following are the results:— Taylor-Rolph Penants:—Holders: E. Owing to unfavourable weather con- ‘ ditions the official opening of the Car- - terton courts did not take place on Saturday, but weather permitting, they ~ will be officially opened on Saturday ‘ next. Dryden, amateur heavyweight wrestling champion of New Zealand, has purchased a trotting horse, Maxie Lorraine, and it will in future race in Mr Dryden's colours. Guy Fawkes Day. There was much activity in Carterton cn Saturday evening when in miniature bonfires, the effigies of Guy Fawkes were burned. The explosion of fireworks of all kinds kept the youngsters interested for a few hours. Personal Items. Mr L. J. Smith, of Hawke's Bay. is on a visit to his mother at Clareville. Mr W. Miller, who took ill after (’ visit to the South Island recently and who entered Masterton Hospital for treatment, has returned to his home. Gun Club. The annual meeting of the Carterton Gun Club will take place in the Dalefield Dairy Co’s, building tonight.
