Armed with machine-guns, regular troops mopped up the remnants of a Croat reservists’ regiment which revolted when an unknown agitator said they were about to be ordered to the Western Front to fight for France. The entire regiment of 4500 men men swept into Karlowitz, and 50 civilians were killed in the ensuing fighting. after which the regiment dug in on the outskirts of the city. Some are still holding out in the woods around Karlowitz. The remainder have been sent to Southern Serbia under an armed guard.
