PRESENTATIONS TO MR BAYBUTT. SERVICES TO. “TIMES-AGE” APPRECIATED. The staff of the “Wairarapa TimesAge” assembled this morning to farewell Mr J. D. Baybutt, advertising manager, who is leaving for Ngarauwahia Camp tomorrow as a lieutenant in the anti-tank corps. Stating that all joining in wishing Mr Baybutt Godspeed, and a safe return, Mr D. IVI. Graham, general manager, said he deeply regretted the fact that the firm was losing Mr Baybutt’s services, as he had proved himself to be a valuable servant and had been most assiduous in helping the firm, in which he had been highly successful. The firm was deeply indebted to him for the good work he had accomplished in the comparatively short time he had been with them. By his many in-, estimable qualities he had made close friends of all members of the staff. On behalf of the staff Mr Graham handed Mr Baybutt a token of their esteem, and a cheque from the firm.
Mi- E. J. Brown, business manager, said Mr Graham had expressed most ably their feeling towards Mr Baybutt on the eve of his departure. Mr Baybutt possessed a bright and happy personality and his absence would be very noticeable. During his association with the firm he had become interested in every department of the office, and took the greatest interest in the firm’s affairs.
“Thanks very much indeed for such a kind and generous farewell,” said Mr Baybutt in acknowledging the gifts. He stated that on account of his association with the military forces in the past, he had an obligation to do something in the present emergency. It was a tremendous break for him to leave the “Times-Age,” the staff of which was a very happy family. He could not imagine a better office in New Zealand to be associated with than the “Times-Age.” “I wish every one of you and the office the very best of success,” said Mr Baybutt in conlusion.
