Because of the possibility that large numbers of the Fire Brigade staff might enlist in the special military force and thus endanger the efficiency of the fire-fighting services of the city, the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board will ask that the fire service be regarded as “essential.” After a discussion in committee at a meeting of the board, it was reported that the chairman would wait on the district military authorities on the matter. II was reported to the meeting that one fireman had already enlisted, and consequently tendered his resignation.
