EKETAHUNA

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION. ("Times-Age” Special.) The thirteenth birthday of the Eketahuna Women's Institute was held on Thursday afternoon when an enjoyable time was spent by a large attendance, including visitors from Nireaha, Alfredton, Rongokokako. Kaiparoro. Hastwells and Hamua. After the National Anthem and Ode to Friendship had been sung, community singing was heartily entered into. Miss Hooper playing the accompaniments. A playlet "In a Country Store." was excel tently acted by members of the Eketahuna Institute, those taking part being Mrs Tolley. Mrs Schormann. Miss Nagel. Miss Mitchell. Mrs Wilson, and Mrs Olivant.

The birthday cake was made and iced by the president, Mrs A. S. Carter, who was presented with a bouquet in recognition of her services. A visitor lit the 13 candles, a pastpresident blew them out. and before cutting the cake. Mrs Hobbs, vice-pre-sident of the Bush District Federation, said she brought greetings from the president, wishing Eketahuna many happy returns of the day. Mrs Morris, of the Hastwells Institute, sang a song in Maori splendidly and was encored. An exhibition of antiques was held. A floral competition (buttonhole suitable for man's coat) resulted: Mrs Wilson, 1; Mrs Fraser. 2; Mrs Baucke and Miss Mitchell, 3. The competition was judged by Mrs Murray-Aynsley. The singing of the New Zealand National Anthem brought a pleasant gathering to a close.

SCOTTISH CONCERT IN TOWN HALL ON TUESDAY. A Scottish concert will be held in the Eketahuna Town Hall on Tuesday. November 7. commencing at 8 p.m. when an excellent programme of music, humour and dancing will be provided. The proceeds will be devoted to the children’s playground fund. No effort is being spared by the promoters to make the concert the success it deserves to be and patrons can rest assured of spending an enjoyable evening. Personal. Mrs Williamson. Mrs Flann (Wellington) and Mrs E. Edwards (Palmerston North) who have been the guests of Mrs R. Gallagher, have returned to their respective homes.
