SITTING AT CARTERTON
CIVIL AND POLICE CASES. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly sitting of the Carterton Magistrate's Court was held yesterday afternoon and was presided over by Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M. CIVIL CASES. Judgment for default was given for plaintiff in the following cases:—Watson and Co v Rike Rike Namana, claim £9 15s sd, court costs £1 2s, solicitor’s fee 15s 6d; H. J. Brown v J. E. P. Kelly, claim £1 9s lOd, costs 8s; Wm Sunnex v Jack Allen, claim £l. costs 8s; Watson and Co v F. O'Loughlin, claim £3 Is lOd, court costs Bs, solicitor’s fee 15s 6d. J. C. Fitzgerald sued lan Hector for £55 15s 6d. The Magistrate reserved judgment, and the case was afterwards proceeded with regarding the replacing of two sets of teat cups. After evidence and legal argument had been heard, defendant’s solicitor submitted that his client was prepared to pay half the cost of the teat cups. Mr Lawry suggested the parties get together for the purpose of coming to an agreement. This was done and later it was reported to the court that a settlement had been arranged. POLICE CASES. The Police proceeded against F. W. Huff who was charged with the theft of sums of money. His Worship convicted accused and admitted him, owing to his youth, to two years' probation. Traffic Officer C. S. Nicolson proceeded against Peggy Adams, for having driven a motor car on August 20 without being the holder of a driver’s licence. She was convicted and fined 10s and 10s costs. Edward Goss was charged with having carried on a goods service in a controlled area between Masterton and Eketahuna contrary to the authority of a goods service license issued under a Transport Roads Order, 1936. He was fined £5 with costs 10s. Lloyd M. Smith that he did on September 29 drive a motor cycle at an excessive speed through the Borough of Carterton. He was fined £3 with costs 10s and given one month to pay the fine. He was also charged that on the same date he drove at a speed of 40 miles per hour, while another person was being carried on such motor cycle, otherwise than in a side chair. For this offence he was ordered to pay 10s costs. These cases were brought by the traffic officer. W. P. Milne, Traffic Officer, proceeded against Dudley Carson for having failed to carry a warrant of fitness. He was fined 5s with costs 10s. The Carterton Borough CAncil pro-<-j' ' "iti irald ? 'inder
