ROYDHOUSE BUTTONS

FIRST CHALLENGE MATCH. At the Masterton Tennis Clubs courts yesterday afternoon, the first challenge match of the season for the Roydhouse Buttons was played. The holders-, P. Hawksworth and H. M. O'Connor, of the Masterton Club, defeated Mackay and Worsfold of the Carterton Club, challengers. 4-6. 6-3. 7-5.

For so early in the season Hawksworth showed excellent form throughout and was well supported by O’Connor, who rose to the occasion when required despite lack of practice.

Mackay, a newcomer to the Wairarapa, showed himself as a good allrounder. playing steadily. His volleying, especially when approaching the net, was excellent. Worsfold served effectively and was deadly in overhead work and in dealing with high bounces.
