1 MOTHER AND DAUGHTER TEA. SUCCESSFUL GATHERING Nearly a hundred people sat down to the annual Mother and Daughter Tea, held in the Y.M.C.A. hall last night. This function is specially provided the enable mothers and thendaughters to get together for a pleasant meal and a happy social hour. This year the event was quite as successful as in the past. Mrs G. R. Bcecroft, the President of the Y.M.C.A. Ladies' Auxiliary, presided over the gathering. The toast to "Our Mothers" was very suitably proposed by Miss Neolene Cottle and was responded to by Mrs P. G. Ramsay. Miss Barnett, matron of the Masterton Hospital, was the principal speaker of the evening, and in an address that was listened to attentively by even the youngest of the small daughters present, she gave interesting and helpful advice on what was appropriately termed “first lines of defence” in matters of health. The enjoyment of Ihe programme was added to by a number of musical and other items presented by Misses Thomas, Mackay, Dagg. Perrin and Perry acted as pianist for f’
