ALFREDTON TALKIES

"THE RAT" TOMORROW NIGHT. There will be a particularly good programme of pictures shown at the Alfrodton Talkies tomorrow night, the star picture being "The Rat." Electric with its thrills and tender in its romance of the Paris underworld, "The Rat" offers the talented starring team of Ruth Chatterton and Anton Walbrook, together with a strong supporting cast and picturesque backgrounds. Based on the famous stage play which made such a hit in London and New York with Ivor Novello. "The Rat" is a picture that should make a special appeal to those who are fond of good dramatic acting, and in these days ol popular drama festivals members oi the Women's Institute would spend a profitable time at such an entertainment. Picture-goers will remember Anton Walbrook for his portrayal of Albert in "Victoria the Great." and the name of Ruth Chatterton has long been a familiar one. To insure the authentic atmosphere of Montmartre, many of the scenes were actually taken in Paris. The story concerns two women who loved "The Rat." one oi' them a waif from the slums of Paris and the other a wealthy woman of the world. Fiercely they waged a silent struggle to win . the man whose cold blue eyes made ' the underworld cringe. A crook’s codes of honour is a hightlight in this drama of the Paris underworld.
