Park Road, Carterton, on Monday evening, when a number of the friends of Mr Rex Lawrence, who has been transferred to the Rotorua branch of the Bank of New South Wales and who left today to take up his new duties, assembled to bid him farewell and the best of luck. The evening was spent in card games, and at the supper adjournment Mr H. J. Dudson, acting as spokesman for Mr Rex Lawrence's many friends, asked him to accept from .them a solid leather suit case as a token of their esteem and regard. Mr Rex Lawrence had lived all his life in Carterton, and had made for himself many real friends who, while regretting his departure, would wish him the best of luck and good fortune wherever he went. Mr Rex Lawrence thanked his friends for their thoughtful and generous gift, and while he felt sad at leaving home, he felt that he was adding to his experience and advancing in his work.

The Mayor, Mr D. L. Taverner, thanked Mr J. A. B. Lawrence for placing his house at the disposal of. Mr Rex Lawrence’s friends for the evening, and especially thanked Miss Mary Lawrence for the very dainty supper she had so well prepared. Musical honours were accorded both Mr Rex Lawrence and Mr and Miss Lawrence. Mr Rex Lawrence was also the guest of honour at a “surprise party” held at Dr. R. N. Campbell’s residence, when Dr. Campbell, on behalf of those assembled,’presented him with a goldmounted and suitably engraved fountain pen and pencil set, extending the best wishes for his future advancement and happiness. REGISTERED DOG COLLARS A TENDER ACCEPTED. The tender of Mr J. A Dudson for the supply of dog collars for the Carterton Borough Council was accepted at last night’s meeting of the Council. WATER CONNECTION AN APPLICATION REFUSED. An application for a high pressure water supply connection outside the borough was received at last night’s meeting. It was resolved not to grant the application, and that in future any further requests for connections outside the borough be not entertained. HIGH PRESSURE PIPE LINE NEW PIPES TO BE LAID. The foreman and his staff will shortly lay new pipes in the high pressure water main the the vicinity of the intake. Investigations have disclosed that many leakages occur in this section. and the overhaul of this part of the water service should result in a • material increase in the volume of water throughout the borough. This particular part of the works has for some considerable time caused trouble and the new foreman is confident that he can stop the wastage of water which occurs.
