WORLD’S FAIR

CLOSED IN NEW YORK REOPENING NEXT YEAR. QUESTION OF NEW ZEALAND PARTICIPATION. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.15 p.m.) NEW YORK. October 31. The World’s Fair has closed. The paid attendance was "6,000,000, only half of what was expected, but still a United States record. The Fair reopens in May, 1940. Finland, despite her difficulties with Russia, announces that she is returning, but other Scandinavian countries are withdrawing. Mr Firth favours a renewal of the New Zealand pavilion, but this depends upon the availability of funds and the action of Britain and the other Dominions. There were 4,000,000 visitors to the New Zealand pavilion, and travel and trade inquiries were encouraging. A decision is not necessary for three months.
