NOTED AIRMAN
SQUADRON=LEADER LAMB REPORTED KILLED GALLANTRY DURING RAID ON KEIL. RECEIVED BY THE KING EARLY IN SEPTEMBER. Advice was received in Mastertoil at midday today to the effect that. SquadronLeader Lennox Lamb had been reported killed yesterday. The many friends of Mr and Mrs AV. G. Lamb, of Masterton will extend their deepest sympathy to them in their great loss. The late Squadron-Leader Lamb had had a distinguished career as an airman. He had the signal honour early in September of being summoned by the King, in recognition of the bravery he displayed during a raid on German warships in the Kiel Canal area immediately after the outbreak of war. He was in charge of the raiding party, which achieved conspicuous success in bombing German warships on that occasion. The late Squadron-Leader Lamb was born in Masterton and educated at Wairarapa High School. He took a keen interest in scouting and was the first King’s Scout in the Wairarapa. He was a very keen mountaineer. For three years he was lightweight champion boxer of the three British services at Home —the army, navy and air force. He was a well known football played, and was for some years an active member of the Masterton Club. Some years ago he left Masterton and took up duties in the air service in England, later being stationed in the Iraq for two years. On his return to England he continued his air work and from the outbreak of the war saw considerable air service. He leaves a widow and two young boys.
