CARTERTON
ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS LOYAL HEART OF OAK LODGE. ("Times-Age” Special.) The fortnightly meeting of Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge was held last evening, P.G. Bro. C. E. White, N.G., presiding. Sick pay amounting to £8 and other accounts totalling £9 Ils 4d were passed for payment. The District Secretary, Bro. G. W. Guise, wrote in regard to maternity claims and the Social Security; also Jhat the society was taking steps regarding members who had joined the forces and that questions in this respect would be discussed by the directors in November. .-A The District Secretary wrote enquiring what night would be suitable for a visit from District Grand Master and his officers. It was resolved that the letter be discussed at the next lodge night when it was hoped there would be a better attendance. The secretary’s action irr forwarding letters of recommendation to two brothers, one in Wellington and the other at Wanganui, was confirmed. A past officer was proposed for the purple degree and lecture at the meeting of the P.G. Lodge to be held at Featherston on November 9. The first nomination of officers was as follows:—N.G., Bro. A. J. King; E.S., P.G. Bro.* G. S. Bruce; Warden, P.G. Bro. H. J. Rathbone; L.M., P.G. Bro. C. E. White; Conductor, P.G. Bro. W. J. Wilkins. HEAVY GALE DAMAGE TO GARDENS. The heavy gale that raged intermittently all day on Monday accompanied by heavy rain, hail and sleet, was responsible for considerable damage to cottage gardens and orchards. Vegetables that were not protected have been battered about as well as small fruit. St. Andrew’s Church Fair. In the Band Room, Carterton, on Friday next, a Caledonian Fair will be held under the auspices of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. Luncheon, morning and afternoon tea will be provided at a moderate charge. Various stalls will be under the supervision of the ladies and will be laden with articles of produce, cakes, etc., Christmas gifts will also be available. This should afford people an opportunity to buy and hold presents till an appropriate time to send them away arrives, or purchase gifts to be sent to friends beyond Carterton. There is sure to be a large attendance and as the fair is for a good cause purchases should be numerous.
