WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT UPPER PLAIN. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Upper Plain Women’s Institute was held recently. Mrs G. Dagg presided and there was a good attendance of members. The meeting opened with the aspirations. The roll call for the afternoon was “My Favourite Song, sing the chorus or pay, threepence.” Everyone paid the fine. A report from the Martinborough Federation meeting was read by Mrs W. Thomas. During the afternoon Mrs Crewe gave a very interesting demonstration on seed work which was watched with keen interest. She was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The Competitions for the afternoon resulted as follows:—Best bloom, Mrs W. Taplin 1; Mrs C. R. Jones 2. Pikelets, Mrs Jones 1, Mrs Taplin 2 . A very pleasant gathering was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem.
