COSY THEATRE

“KING OF THE UNDERWORLD.” Tonight the Cosy Theatre will present a programme of thrills from first to last. Commencing with the 2nd chapter of the great serial, “The Lone Ranger,” the the presentation is headed by the super thriller “King of the Underworld,” featuring that prince of actors, Humphrey Bogart and beautiful- Kay Francis. Although “King of the Underworld” is a crime picture, it is not without its humorous twist. The capable Bogart, possessing a Napoleonic complex, really thinks he is the king of crime —so much so, that he kidnaps a young novelist, Stephenson, and commands him to write a biography, glorifying the exploits and achievements of “Red” Gurney, which is Bogart’s character name. Red Gurney’s philosophy of life, his inordinate vanity and his dictatorial treatment of his underlyings are said to be highly amusing. But he fails to take into account the surgeon’s feminine ingenuity and her complete knowledge of drugs which eventually proves disastrous to the gang chief.

First behind-the-scenes story . of Hollywood radio commentators, “Risky Business,” is the associate feature. George Murphy as film news broadcaster, and Dorothea Kent, as his secretary and assistant, portray the leads. Eduardo Ciannelli, Leon Ames, El Brendel, Grant Richards, Pierre Watkm. and Frances Robinson head the supporting cast. The story of ‘ Risky Business” finds Murphy involved in a sensational headline case involving a gangster mob and a movie financier. Because the divulging of identities of principles in. the case will endanger the life of a beautiful girl Murphy is forced to work alone.
