Hancox, reported that Messrs G. V. Wild, C. Hynes and Miss McKenzie, Technical Inspectors, visited the day and evening schools from October 16 to October 19, Most of the cultivated farm area had been planted out in mangolds, swedes and potatoes, and additional sheep had been purchased. The Inter-Collegiate Oratory contest was held on October 14, being won by Solway College. The Wairarapa College team was placed second. A concert had been given by the Blind Institute Band on October 17 and was thoroughly enjoyed by the pupils. The annual College athletic sports, stated the Principal, were to be held at the College on Thursday, November 2, and the Secondary Schools’ athletic tournament at Wellington on Saturday, November 11. Cricket and tennis had been organised for the season. Mr H. N. Bibby, B.Ag., had been appointed agricultural master in succession to Mr S. Mills. Mr Bruce McLeod, of Lincoln College, had been appointed as relieving teacher. During the past month the levelling and filling of the section presented by Mrs W. Nops, to be used as tennis courts, had been carried out. It was expected that three full-sized tennis courts (and basketball courts) would be provided. The report of the works committee drew attention to the need of an auxiliary water supply, owing to the large area of grass and cultivated ground to be served, and in view of the borough water restrictions. A letter of thanks was received from the District Physical Welfare Committee for the assistance given by the College Pipe Band and girls in connection with Recreation Week.
