TRAMPING CLUB
WEEKEND TRIP TO CASTLEPOINT. VISIT TO PLACES OF INTEREST. A most enjoyable Labour weekend was spent at Castlepoint by a party of Wairarapa Tramping Club members. Included in the party of sixteen which left' Masterton early on Saturday afternoon, were two club members from Palmerston North. Through the generosity of the club vice-president, Mr Robt. Russell, the party had the use of two cottages and a caravan. Although the weather was not of the best on Saturday and Sunday, all the well-known places of interest were visited. On Sunday morning the club was requested to form a search party for a young child who was missing from Whakataki. The party was conveyed by bus to Whakataki by Mr B. Savage. On their arrival, however, they discovered that the child had been found a short time before. Swimming was. enjoyed by many, while others set out for the reef armed with fishing lines and crayfish pots, etc. Splendid views were obtained from the top of Castle Rock, and it is expected that some very fine photos will be on display at the November club night. On behalf of the Wairarapa Tramping Club the president (Mr J. A. Wells) thanked Mr Russell i for his generosity in inviting the members of the club to Castlepoint. His' assistance in the transport of gear, etc., was very much appreciated, said Mr Wells, who then called for three cheers for Mr Russell, ■ which were heartily given.
