WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT HASTWELLS. The Hastwells Women’s Institute held its monthly meeting on Wednesday last. Mrs Madsen presided over a good attendance of members. The meeting opened with the ode to friendship and aspirations, followed by prayer for peace. The president called on Mrs Welch, Kaiparoro, to demonstrate thet covering of boxes with wallpaper. She also had on show boxes which she had covered. Mrs Welch was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Tlk- competition for the month resulted: Rucked cushions, seniors, Miss A. iJick, I; Mrs A. V. Madsen. 2, and Mr:; .1. Dick, 3. Juniors. Mrs H. Mad.■:<‘ii, I: Miss I. Madsen, 2, and Miss K. Larson. Best flower. Miss P. Thorby, I; Mi.: Nagel. 2, and Mrs Burt and 'Mrs Madson (equal >. 3. The game, which was run by Mrs Broadbent, was won by Miss 11. Madsen, Miss O. Jlalberg being second and Mrs Madsen third. Mrs Welch and Miss Welch were thanked for judging the competitions. Mrs Morris and Mrs Seymour were appointed delegates to attend the halfyearly council meeting at Hamua. The hostesses, Mrs McKay and Miss Thorby, were also thanked for serving afternoon tea.
