ST. JOHN AMBULANCE

ANNUAL INTERDISTRICT CADE! COMPETITIONS. MASTERTON PLACED THIRD. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. The annual interdistrict competitions for Ambulance Cadets of the St John Ambulance Brigade was held in the Ambulance Hall, Wellington, on Saturday. Evidence of the widespread interest in this event was the presence of competitors from as far afield as Auckland and Christchurch, as well as those from the more immediate districts. The main trophy competed for was the Alfred Robin Memorial Shield.' which incorporates the orders K.C.M. 8.. C. 8.. and Knight of St John, and also medals of the Diamond Jubilee. C. 8., C.M.G., the territorial officers decoration, South Africa service medal, and the Legion of Honour. The winners of this handsome shield were the Wellington Y.M.C.A., who gained 187} points.

The trophies were presented by the Governor-General, Lord Galway, who congratulated the winners on the high standard' they had reached. He said he was pleased to note how great was the interest taken by the cadets in their valuable work, which needed no eulogising to show the public its usefulness. and, in fact, indispensability in times of national emergency.

Mi’ C. S. Faulkner, national chairman of the St John Ambulance Brigade, also congratulated the Y.M.C.A. boys on their fine performance, and said that as a member of one of the first brigades, he had no hesitation in saying that they were doing better work than the earlier brigades had done—-in fact, he considered that he could learn a great deal from these cadets. Among other speakers were Colonel J. J. Esson and Messrs E. B. Gilberd and F. W. Ward.

The following warrants of appointment were presented by Lord Galway: —District superintendent, E. B. Gilberd; corps officer, V. Boesley; divisional superintendent, C. E. Binns; lady divisional superintendent, Miss E. Paul; lady cadet superintendent, Mrs I. Miles. Awards made were: —Cadet proficiency badges for seven nursing cadets; five years’ service service bar, Commissioner F. W. Ward (27 years' service). Rockell Cup: R. A.
