After safely crossing 7000 miles of war zone waters with a valuable cargo of foodstuffs, the Blue Star liner lonic Star went aground in a thick fog on a sandbank 18 miles off the western coast of England, breaking her back. The passengers and crew were rescued uninjured. Salvage ships are endeavouring to save some of the cargo. She was inward bound from South America. The lonic Star was 5602 tons and was built in 1917.
