DAMAGES AWARDED

ACCIDENT AT LANSDOWNE. HEARING IN WELLINGTON YESTERDAY. A claim by Jocelyn James Andrew against Harold Clarkson and Clarence Anderson, all of Masterton, was heard before Mr Justice Smith and a common jury of twelve in the Supreme Court at Wellington yesterday. The claim was for £251 4s special damages, being loss of wages, hospital and medical expenses, eic., and for £750 general damages for personal injury, pain, and suffering. It arose out of a motor accident on Opaki Road on September 10 of last year when Andrew, on his bicycle. was run down and severely injured by the defendants in Mr Clarkson’s car. The defendants just prior to the hearing admitted liability and the jury in consequence were asked only to assess the amount of the damages. The plaintiff was represented by Mr T. Jordan and the defendants by Mi- W. P. Shorland. After a retirement of a little more than an hour the jury found a verdict for £246 16s 6d special damages and the full amount of the general damages, £750. Judgment was entered accordingly with costs according to scale and witnesses' expenses and disbursements to be fixed by the Registrar.
