COUNTY AFFAIRS

WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNCIL MEETS. WORK ON WATER-RACES AND ROADS. ("Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa South County Council was held at Carterton yesterday. In the absence of the chairman, Mr Duncan McGregor, Mr F. Court presided and others present were Councillors W. A. Renall, E. W. Allen, A. E. Reid. F. W. Joblin, C. A. Cameron and Alex McGregor. The Carrington water-race overseer’s report stated that during the month little cleaning had been carried out. Cattle broke the pipes under the race on Cobden Road. These had been replaced by concrete pipes. Visits had been paid to the headworks and everything was in order, stated the Taratahi water-race overseer. Leaks had been repaired on various races. Further construction work in putting on the top coarse metal had been done on Norfolk and Freezing Works roads, reported the county overseer. Metalling was being done on the newly formed section of the Tara Road. Metal had been graded in on Kokotau. Somerset, Francis, Bristol. Hughes, East Taratahi and Cornwell roads. The river protection work above the Backwater bridge had been completed. Metal had been graded in watertables and slips cleared on the East Coast road. During the month 12 days’ crushing was done.
