RED CROSS SOCIETY SUCCESSFUL EUCHRE PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a good attendance at the Odd Fellows' Hall for the euchre tournament held in aid of the Red Cross Society’s funds. The winners were: Ladies, Mrs Kinsey 1, Mrs Watson 2. Men, Mrs Lowell 1, Mrs Fluty 2. SCHOOL COMMITTEE MONTHLY MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the Featherston school committee there were present Messrs J. W. Holland (chairman), C. C. Kenward (secretary), J. Higgison, C. Buck, J. W. Henderson, S. Murphy and C. J. Carlyon. An apology for absence was received from Mr W. Jeffrey. A credit balance at the Bank of £65 was reported. The visiting committee in its report mentioned the cleanliness of the school property, especially the out-buildings. The Wellington Education Board wrote granting permission for the school to be closed on the date of People's Day at the Carterton Show. Plans and specifications were received from the Board covering the new accommodation. The plans provide for five new class rooms of the sqmi-open air type. Girls’ and boys’ shelter sheds and conveniences are also provided and a re-modelling of the present buildings to make them suitable' for High School use is to be made. Tenders will close on October 31 at the Wellington Education Board’s office in Mercer Street, Wellington. The Wellington Education Board advised that the furniture of the secondary and infant departments would be inspected by officers of the Board when next in Featherston. The interior painting of the main school would be carried out later in the year. A deputation from the Home and School Association inspected the plans, for the new accommodation and considered them very satisfactory. The visiting school inspectors report was read and a very hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the headmaster and staff for the very favourable results disclosed. The vocational officers of the Education Department advised the headmaster that they were prepared to include Featherston in their round of visits for the Wairarapa. The headmaster stated that he had accepted the proposed visit. Mr F. A. O’Neale was deputed to attend to minor repairs at the High School. Messrs W. Jeffrey and F. A. O’Neale were appointed school visitors for the month.
