ROAD DEATHS
BIG INCREASE IN BRITAIN UNDER WAR BLACKOUT CONDITIONS. GOVERNMENT MUCH CONCERNED By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.45 a.m.) LONDON, October 18. Captain Evan Wallace (Minister of Transport), in the House of Commons, said deaths by road accidents in Britain last month numbered 1130, compared with 554 in September last year. The Government viewed the increase with deep concern. Experiments had been made with a view to mitigating the difficulties resulting from lack of street lighting, but so far it had been found impossible to devise means of relaxing the restrictions, while at the same time concealing objectives from aircraft.
