BUILDING ALTERATIONS
MASTERTON PUBLIC HOSPITAL. SECTIONS OF ADMINISTRATION BLOCK. Alterations to certain sections of the Administration Block at the Masterton Public Hospital costing somewhere within the vicinity of £3OOO are to be put in hand shortly. The sections concerned are the office block, the board room and the resident medical officer’s accommodation. At yesterday’s meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board, a plan submitted by the board’s architect, Mr F. C. Daniell, was approved and the Finance Committee was instructed to proceed with the alterations. The chairman, Mr H. H. Mawley, said it would now be necessary to shelve the original plan in connection with the Administration Block, as material, particularly steel would be practically unobtainable. He considered that under the circumstances the present plan was an excellent one, and was in fact the only alternative the board had. “Our original plan would have cost something like £11,500, so that even if we were to go ahead with lhe original plan in six years’ time the interest saved over that period will have paid for the present scheme,” Mr Mawley observed.
