HOSPITAL BOARD

MONTHLY REPORTS. ' -j FINANCIAL POSITION REVIEWED. At the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board at Masterton today the Managing Secretary. Mr N. Lee. submitted the following report in respect to the financial position of the board, for the half year ended September 30. 1939: For the period maintenance expenditure is in excess of re ceipts by the sum of £3557. On capital account there is a credit balance of £1972. The Bank pass book shows ar.overdraft of £ll2, and cheques outstanding total £1356, leaving an over - draft credit of £1469, which is subject to adjustment. In connection with the overdraft on maintenance account the following factors should .be taken into consideration: The proportional . amount of patients’ fees collections for . the period in accordance with total amount estimated for the whole year is r £10,199. The fees received total £9075, E leaving a deficiency of £lll5. The reason for this deficiency is known to members, and it is anticipated that by the end of the financial year the full . amount of fees collections as provided - for in the estimates will be received. - On the expenditure side of the state i a ment it will be seen that the amount of t refund of subsidy has been paid in full, i The proportional amount for the period' z is £790. This again has the effect of increasing overdraft on maintenance account. Also, on the expenditure side of the statement imprest account is shown as a disbursement of £5OO. The imprest account has a balance of £5OO which can be offset against the disbursement and would consequently further reduce the overdraft by £5OO. In addition overdraft at April 1, 1939, is shown in full on the disbursement side of the statement. This also has the effect of increasing overdraft on maintenance by £612. Taking these factors ’ into consideration it will be seen that items enumerated, and as shown here • under, account for a considerable pro portion of the overdraft on maintenance: Deficiency in patents' fees £ll5O. - Over-payment of refund of subsidy L £790; Imprest account £500; Propor- , tional amount of overdraft £612; Total, ’ £3052. With reference to capital re- . ceipts and payments there is a credit , balance of £1972. Local Bodies levies • for the half year have been received in full and £562 received on account o’.'| i Government subsidy. The balance, j : £2053 and subsidy outstanding at i March 31, 1939, amounting to £1033 j have been received since September 30. The unexpended balance of loan funds ■ is £3791, of which £3750 is on fixed ’ deposit. - The Medical Superintendent, Dr 1. ■ T. Parr, reported that the number of patients remaining in the Masterton , Hospital on August 31 was 114. During t September 122 were admitted and 137 ■ discharged, leaving a total remaining 1 of 99. The daily average of beds occu- ■ pied was 100.23. Of the 137 discharged ’ 97 were classified as cured, and 31 as ' relieved. Of the 99 remaining 27 had been in Hospital over two months, and : of these 10 were long surgical cases, 10 ' medical cases, and seven were cases ot pulmonary tuberculosis. Forty -seven “ operations were performed. 7a X-ray 1 investigations made, and 362 massage 1 treatments given. . Two nurses were absent during tne ' month through sickness, reported the 1 Matron of the Masterton Hospital. One 1 resignation was received. Gifts of books, magazines, and flowers have been received from a great many kind friends of the hospital, and I would like to take this opportunity of thanking all those who have left these gifts anonymously, and whom we have been unable to thank personally. The Masterton Hospital ambulance answered 21 calls during the month, covering a distance of 431 miles.
