COMMUNISTS IN U.S.A.
move by c.i.o. president.
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. NEW YORK. October 16.
The' “New York Times' ” Labour editor in a message from Detroit states that the president of the Committee for Industries Organisation. Mr John L. Lewis, after repeatedly denying that there is Communist influence within the C. 1.0., is reported to have declared war on Communist sympathisers within the organisation a few hours before his demotion of Harry Bridges. Mr Lewis bluntly warned the executive board that immediate dismissal would follow any attempts to introduce Communist policies. Mr Lewis is seeking to avoid publicising the purge. It was earlier reported that Mr Lewis had removed Harry Bridges from the position of C. 1.0. director on the West Coast and appointed him regional director for California. He denied that the change was a concession against the criticism of Bridges as a Communist and said it was merely an organisational drive.
