ARMS PRODUCTION
GREAT STRIDES BEING MADE IN AUSTRALIA STATEMENT BY FEDERAL MINISTER. INCREASING OUTPUT OF PLANES. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.45 a.m.) RUGBY, October 16. Prominence is given to a Melbourne report that Mr R. G. Casey, the Commonwealth Treasurer, declared that by the end of the year twenty-one armament "annexes” will be operating in Australia and that the output of planes will soon be great enough to equip and complete a squadron every three weeks. Mr Casey added: “Australia will become an Empire arsenal, practically independent of outside sources for arms and munitions and the raw materials for making them."
