EXCHANGE OF VIEWS
THE FINNISH DELEGATION IN MOSCOW QUESTION OF THE AALAND ISLANDS. EXPECTED TO BE MAIN TOPIC. A radio report states that the Finnish delegation to Moscow has announced that no demands have been made as yet, and that the object of the visit to Moscow is merely to exchange views. Nevertheless, commentators expect that the Aaland Islands will be the main topic of discussion. It is pointed out that they command the entrance to the Gulf of Bothnia which divides Sweden and Finland, and of the Gulf of Finland, which gives access to Leningrad, and that recently Russia opposed proposals by Finland and Sweden to refprtify these isles. Meanwhile the general attitude in Finland remains
firm. A Finnish newspaper comments: “Any attempt to force us to give up our neutrality or to take up some kind of compromising position will meet with determined opposition. That sort of kow-towing position into which the Baltic States have been forced will not 'be tolerated here.’ -
