MASTER FAREWELLED

GATHERINGS AT WAIRARAPA COLLEGE. PRESENTATION TO MR MILLS. Mr S. Mills, B.Agr., agricultural master at Wairarapa College, was farewelled yesterday prior to his departure for the Hawera Technical High School, where he will commence duty on Monday. The first pupils to ride in the Wairarapa College bus. just acquired, were those of the agricultural class who were driven by the Principal, Mr G. G. Hancox, round the grounds to the Assembly Hall, where arranged, but obviously not baked, all by themselves they treated their departing teacher. Mr S. Mills, to a sumptuous afternoon tea. The tables were heavily laden with the choicest products of the farm in which cream cakes —with real cream —showed prominently. How fully the boys did justice to the good things those who know boys at this age can easily imagine. At an appropriate occasion, Malcolm Stuart expressed the appreciation of the boys for the interest Mr Mills had always taken in their welfare, voiced their regret at his departure and wished him, Mrs Mills and family every success and happiness in the future. Mr Mills said his associations with the boys had been most happy. He also wished to thank those farmers who had permitted the boys to go to their farms for demonstrations and expressed the hope that the new school bus would permit more of this valuable work to be done. At morning tea yesterday members of the staff and their wives assembled in the flat of the Home Science Department to farewell Mr Mills. The Principal, Mr Hapcox, referred to the excellent services"vrendered to the .College by Mr Mills, 'both in the classroom and on the playing fields. He was an efficient teacher and had given generously of his time to promote sport and the general welfare of the pupils. . Mr G. W. Morice, who presented Mr Mills with a rug on behalf of the staff, endorsed the Principal’s remarks and stated that the relations between Mr Mills and his fellow teachers had always been of a most cordial nature. In acknowledging the gift, Mr Mills said he had gained much in experience from his association with a combined school, as his previous teaching had been chiefly in boys’ secondary schools. The Board of Governors has appointed Mr H. N. Bibby, B.Agr., of the Hastings High School, agricultural master at Wairarapa College. Mr Bibby passed his science subjects at the University of Otago and completed his agricultural degree at Massey College. He has had varied teaching experience and is keenly interested in sport. Mr Bibby will take up his duties in the New Year. In the meantime, Mr Bruce McLeod, of Lincoln College, will act as relieving teacher. /
