STOCK MARKET
FEILDING SALE LATE RATES FOR MUTTON. FAT CATTLE PRICES ADVANCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) FEILDING, October 13. The annual cattle fair held in Feeding today attracted a large attendance, buyers being present from all parts of Wellington province. The entry was good, and for all well grown cattle a firm demand existed. Because exporters were not paying much attention to chillers, most of the demand was confined to big cattle, particularly those with roomy frames and in forward condition. For these, prices were very satisfactory. A substantial penning of young cattle came forward but, for the most part, offerings were undersized, and showed the effects of the hard winter and the shortage of feed. The top lines were not far short of the 1938 peak values, but average sorts were down considerably. Taken all round, however, the demand for station cattle was good. Forward-condi-tioned four-year A.A. steers, made £lO 18s to £ll 10s, lighter £8 13s to £9 Ils, others £8 7s 6d; best three-year A.A. steers £8 3s to £8 17s, second quality £7 to £B, backward £6 to £6 17s, good three-year Shorthorn steers, £9 12s; small Red Poll steers, £6 10s; best two-year A.A. steers, £6 2s to £6 10s, others £5 to £6; small Shorthorn steers, £6; ;averaged-sized two-year Hereford heifers, £6 2s 6d to £6 12s; best two-year A.A. heifers, £5 to £5 12s, small £3 12s to £4 6s; undersized two-year Shorthorn heifers, £3 18s; forward empty A.A. cows, best £5 to £5 15s, others £4 8s to £4 15s; Shorthorn cows, £3 2s 6d to £3 11s; light two-year Jersey steers, £4 10s; best yearling A.A. steers, £5 10s to £B, others from £3 15s to £5, special lines £6 7s 6d; works’ cows, £1 to £3 2s 6d. Fat sheep: Late rates ruled for mutton, the demand again being good. Very few wethers were available, but ewes were in large supply. Prime heavy wethers made 28s 3d, lighter 22s to 23s sd, unfinished 18s to 20s; extra prime woolly ewes, 30s'2d, prime woolly 28s 3d, prime shorn 23s to 24s 3d, lighter 18s to 20s 3d, unfinished Ils to 17s 3d; prirfie hoggets 25s 3d to 27s Id, second quality, 225, light 17s 3d to 18s lOd.
Store sheep: A light entry of store hoggets sold well, wether lines in good order appreciating in value. Best ewe hoggets made 28s to 29s Id, second grade 25s to 265; well-grown wether hoggets 20s 5d to 225, smaller 15s Id to 19s lid; two-tooth wethers 21s sd; b.f. hoggets, 19s. Fat cattle: Another strong sale took place for beef, prices for prime station lines again advancing. The clearance of ex-dairy lines was also very good. Prime bullocks made £l3 17s 6d to £l4 12s 6d. lighter £9 10s to £l2 ss; prime A.A. cows £ll 10s to £l2. medium weights £9 10s to £lO 12s Gd. lighter £8 5s to £9 ss; ex-dairy cows,l £4 15s to £6 15s; prime Hereford heifers, £ll 18s to £l3 ss. second quality £lO 7s 6d to £ll 7s, average sorts £8 5s to £9 10s, lights £4 17s 6d to £6 15s; vealers 217 s 6d.
