DRUNKEN MOTORISTS
SENTENCE OF IMPRISONMENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, October 12. In the Magistrates’ Court, Henry Walton Phillips, described by the police as a man with a substantial list of convictions, including assaulting the police, breaking and entering, and dangerous driving, was sentenced to six weeks’ imprisonment for intoxication in charge of a car, while his companion, Joseph Sutherland, was fined £2 for obscene language. It was stated that Phillips violently resisted arrest. FINE AND LICENCE CANCELLED. TAUMARUNUI, October 12. In the Magistrates’ Court today, before Mr Watson, S.M., John Wilkie, on a charge of intoxication while driving a car, was convicted and fined £2O and costs. His licence was cancelled for seven months.
