UNDER FIRE AGAIN
MINISTRY OF INFORMATION CRITICISM IN HOUSE OF COMMONS. DRASTIC REVISION IN PROGRESS. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. LONDON. October 12. In the House of Commons the Ministry of Information received heavy criticism when numerous speakers attacked its methods and accused the administration of bungling. The Secretary to the Ministry, Sir Edward Grigg, replying, admitted that the organisation lacked “the kind of man and the kind of system” to get quick" action and the Government was engaged in drastic revision of the machinery.
■ The Lord Privy Seal, Sir Samuel Hoare, said that the Ministry’s duty would be publicity in neutral countries, the Dominions and Britain—publicity rather than propaganda. “The last thing we want to do is to embark on any plan such as those in the totalitarian States for propaganda." he added. “It will be publicity and by that I mean straight news.”
