ABOUT HORSES
DEFAULTER’S HALF-SISTER. Defaulter’s half-sister, by Foxlight, who was purchased at the National yearling sales at Trentham by Mr W. J. Smith, of New South Wales, for 500gns, has been named Kenthelda. Trivet has foaled a colt to Ringmaster, the sire of Master Hotspur. Trivet was got by Paladin —Kerb, by Markhope—Fender, by Martian. A New Zealand Cup candidate growing in favour is said to be the Hunting Song gelding Centrepoise. It is the trainer that plays a very important part in making a stayer, but the pedigree also builds hope in the same direction. Centrepoise was got by Hunting Song from Monette, by Limond — Sequinette, by St Ambrose—Sequin, by Cuirassier —Radiant, by Robinson Crusoe—Radiance, by Fireworks, a horse holding the unique distinction of winning the V.R.C. Derby twice. The taproot has produced some good stayers in Lantern (Melbourne Cup) and St Hippo (New Zealand Cup and Auckland Cup). St Ambrose won the Williamstown Cup and was close up in the Melborne Cup, and got a Now Zealand Cup winner in Sinapis. Limond got several good stayers.
