FEATHERSTON

CROQUET CLUB NEW SEASON OPENED. ("Times-Age” Special.) The Haunui Croquet Club had perfect weather for the opening of the season yesterday afternoon, the greens and gardens being in splendid order. Miss Eva Card (president) welcomed the visitors and new members, and called upon Miss Card (Mayoress) to declare the season open. Miss Card spoke of the pleasure it gave her to declare the season open, and said that though their thoughts were mostly engaged in war matters it was necessary to engage in healthy recreations. The president then played the first ball. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames D. H. S. Riddiford, Elgar, M. B. Tait, Harkness, Barker, Hoby and Langford. The tea tables were beautifully decorated by Miss Viles with the club's colours. The club is to begin the competitions with sealed handicaps. The winners of the competitions were as follow: —Angles, Mrs Tutbury; hon members golf, Mrs Sharp; playing members golf, Mrs Hankers. At the conclusion of afternoon tea the prizes were presented by Miss Eva Card. GUM GROVE GOLF CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP WINNERS. The lady members of the Gum Grove Golf Club brought the season to a close yesterday, when the Mayoress (Miss Card) presented the trophies won during the season as follow:—Senior championship, Mrs Benton; runner-up, Miss Williams; junior championship, Mrs Carlyon; runner-up, Mrs McCarthy; challenge cup, Mrs Lovegrove; points prize, Mrs Benton; bogey competition, Miss Williams; medal round, Mrs Lovegrove; stableford, 9 -hole eclectic, Mrs Benton; 18-hole eclectic Mrs Lovegrove; most reduced handicap for the season, Miss Bloxam; 13-hole play, Mrs Hart; approach and putting competition, Miss Bloxam. RED CROSS SOCIETY SUCCESSFUL EUCHRE PARTY. The euchre party in aid of the Red Cross Society’s funds, held in the Odd Fellows’ Hall, was a decided success. The winners were: Ladies, Mrs Worsley 1.
