During the winter months hundreds of white butterfly caterpillars crawled up the outside walls of the Palmerston North Courthouse, and there settled themselves in protecting crannies to undergo the change into Chrysalids. But behind them came an army of destroying wasps, with the result that the chrysalids are now either empty shells or are acting as nurseries for the grubs of the wasp.
