FRANCE IN THE AIR
PRODUCTION OF PLANES. HUGE SPEED-UP IN LAST YEAR. When France’s military aviation plan was conceived a year ago the goal was set at 5000 planes with production gradually reaching 200 a month by March. As new needs arose and greater efficiency was achieved, the goal was moved to 8000. The 200 rate was reached and topped and because emergency equipment had been installed, it was confidently expected that the rate could be tripplcd at any instant. “It is this ability to increase production at a moment’s notice that is the greatest factor in the confidence of France and Great Britain, the they will win a prolonged war,” remarked the “New York Times" recently. “German production has been at an almost wartime peak for some time. Britain and France were approaching it in recent months. There is every ground for the belief that at the present time their combined production far and away exceeds that of Germany. In August, for example, the French Air Minister. M Guy La Chambre, announced a 's » edun plan,' under which the plane production rate was expected to be 750 a month.
