RUGBY AFFAIRS

WAIRARAPA UNION. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the Management Committee of the Wairarapa Rugby Football Union was held last evening in the P. and A. board room, Carterton. Mr H. A. McPhee (president) being in the chair. There were also present Messrs M. Parker, K. G. Fairbrother, K. Reid, E. B. Booth. L. Pearson, S. Henson, B. Welch and the Secretary (Mr E. McKenzie). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs H. Benge and C. Gray. The meeting resolved to make a final request to the Featherston Club for an explanation as to why junior players were included in third grade teams.

Mr S. Henson was appointed to represent the Rugby Union at the championship dance of the Carterton Club on Monday evening. The grazing rights in connection with Rugby Park, Masterton, were let to Mr C. M. McLean, Masterton.

It was 'resolved to close with the secretary (Mr E. McKenzie, Box 3, Carterton), on October 14. tenders for grazing Memorial Park. It was reported that windows had been damaged in the dressing rooms at Rugby Park. As the alleged offenders are know it was decided that court proceedings be taken against them. The response of Wairarapa footballers to the call to military service was favourably commented upon, no less than 15 members of the Old Boys Club having enlisted, while members of other clubs had also answered the call to duty. The senior sole selector, Mr K. Reid, was congratulated upon the marked improvement shown by the Wairarapa team during the season“just closed.

Members of the committee made reference to the very able manner in which Mr H. A. McPhee had conducted the affairs of the Union during the season. He was accorded a hearty vote of thanks which was carried by acclamation. Mr McPhee suitably replied. Accounts amounting to £35 19s 6d were passed for payment. The final meeting of the committee will be held at Carterton on Thursday. November 9.
