PETROL RATIONING

INCREASED ALLOWANCE FOR BIG CARS.

SUPPLEMENTARY COUPONS.

A further easing of the petrol restrictions was announced yesterday by the Minister of Supply,' Mr Sullivan. He said that the general position regarding petrol supplies in the Dominion was now sufficiently reassuring to justify the move. “It was recognised when the issue of 10 gallons a month to all classes of cars was introduced that it favoured the small as compared with the larger cars,” the Minister said. “Now that additional supplies are available, it is proposed to make the distribution on a more equitable basis by allowing an increase of 50 per cent to cars over 14 horsepower (R.A.C. rating). “Arrangements are therefore being made for the issue of a supplementary set of one-gallon coupons to the owners of cars of over 14 horsepower. These coupons will be numbered in the same way as the present coupons, and will be available each month according to the numbers as announced by the Oil Fuel Controller.

“The coupons will be obtainable from Post Offices on and after Monday, October 16, and those numbered 4 to 8 both inclusive, will be accepted during October,” the Minister added. “I feel sure that this proposal will be generally acceptable throughout the motoring community.’’
