WORLD'S CHAMPION SHEARER. EX-PAHIATUA RESIDENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. Obituary: Mr William Higgins,. at Karaka Bay, aged 4'5, the' world's champion shearer. Born at Pahiatua, he was on the shearing board at fourteen and made a record tally at Moumakaki, when 29, of 496 Romney ewes in a nine hour working day. With Lincolns the. previous year, in the same shed, he shore 383 in eight hours 45 minutes. He came to Wellington and became a travelling representative for the Wolseley Sheep Shearing Company. He leaves a widow, two sons and three daughters.
