AMERICAN POSITION

OFFICIALS RETICENT TO COMMENT.

(Received This Day. 9.50 a.m.) NEW YORK, October 4

The Washington correspondent of the Associated Press of America states that officials are reluctant to comment on Mr Lloyd George’s proposal that the United States should be included in any peace conference. They pointed out that neither an Italian nor a Russian proposal had been made and that Mr Chamberlain had indicated that Britain was not inclined to entertain peace overtures. Unofficially it is said that the United States will refuse io join Italy or any other Power in proposing terms which will leave Poland dismembered.
