GALLO-ROMAN REMAINS
DISCOVERY IN THE GERS. It is no exaggeration to say that every day sees some discovery in France of Roman or Gallo-Roman remains, so rich is that country in vestiges of the Roman occupation. Motorists who have made their way south know how constantly one comes across remains left by the Romans, and besides the arenas at Nimes and Arles, the huge Roman bridge over the Gard, the theatres at Orange and Vienne and Arles, one constantly finds by the roadside a broken column or vestige of a villa.
The latest discovery has been made at Monferran-Saves, beside the road from Toulouse to Bayonne. Here some workmen engaged on levelling a hillock came across several complete skeletons, with by them tiles, coins, rings anil bracelets, lance-heads, pieces of red pottery, and a marble bust of a woman with an inscription below it. Archeologists believe a Roman cemetery of the second century has been unearthed, and that excavations in the vicinity are likely to produce many more relics.
