WEDDING

f CHRISTENSEN—THORPE. A very pretty wedding was solemnised at St Cuthbert’s Church, Eketahuna, when Lilian Kathleen, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Thorpe (Levin) was married to Alan, third son of Mr and Mrs L. C. Christensen (Putara). The Rev L. Ives performed the ceremony and Miss Muriel Smith played the wedding music. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a lovely frock of white satin, moulded to her figure. The skirt, which fell to a long train, and lower bodice, were cut in one and a posy of orange blossom was placed at the shoulder line. The sleeves were long and close-fitting and were pointed ovei’ the hands. The veil was held in place by a half-circlet of orange blossom and a lovely bouquet of white and palest pink roses and fern was carried.

The bride was attended by her cousin, Miss Gwen Eyes (Levin) and by Miss Edna Christensen, the bridegroom’s sister. Both maids wore becoming ground-length frocks of apricot coloured organdi over the same shade, of satin. As head coverings they wore silver Juliet caps and their bouquets toned with their frocks. Two little maidens dressed in long lavender frocks of organdie over satin and with silver head bands followed the bride, carrying posies to tone with their frocks. They were Aileen Woodley, the bridegroom’s niece, and Dorothy Thorpe, the bride’s sister. Mr Leslie (Pete) Christensen, supported his brother as best man and Mr Noel Thorpe was groomsman. ! After the ceremony the bridal party and guests went out to Putara to the bridegroom’s former home. Mrs Thorpe wearing a navy costume with white tonings and,Mrs Christensen in a wine ensemble with bead trimmings and a black hat, received the guests. The beautiful two-tiered wedding cake was made by the bride’s grandmother and wap topped with a white and gold shoe that had adorned her greatgrandmother’s bridal cake. Guests were present from Levin, Wellington, Palmerston North, Masterton and Dannevirke. To travel, the bride wore a London tan costume with black hat and accessories.
