MARTINBOROUGH

QUEEN CARNIVAL WIN FOR MISS JOYCE GRANT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Queen Carnival held for the raising of funds for the erection of Centennial Public Swimming Baths came to an exciting finish on Friday evening with a dance at the Town Hall which was attended by a very large crowd. From early in the evening the votes in favour of the two queens were recorded on a blackboard on the stage and the last quarter of an hour proved very interesting and exciting. At eleven o'clock the final figures disclosed a victory for the Associated Sports Bodies' Queen, Miss Joyce Grant who defeated Miss Kitty Smith, the Young Farmers' and Women’s Division candidate.

The-Mayor, Mr C. W. Skill expressed much pleasure at the splendid result of the carnival and thanked both committees for the splendid manner in which they had worked. During the day a Paddy's Market was held in the Town Hall by both committees with a satisfactory result. The winners of the competitions held by the Green Queen carnival committee were: —Cake. Mr M.
