DEPARTING RECRUITS
MEN GOING, INTO CAMP TOMORROW. PUBLIC FAREWELL ARRANGED. The first batch of mejii selected from the Wairarapa to go into camp this week will leave Masterton by the early morning train tomorrow for Palmerston North, where they will connect with a special train taking other men to Wellington, en route to Burnham Camp. Tomorrow afternoon a party of about 30 men will leave Masterton by the mail train for Wellington. The Municipal Band will be in attendance and the afternoon batch will be farewelled by the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, at the station. Another party, who will be leaving Masterton by the mail tram on Wednesday morning will be proceeding to Ngaruwahia. These men will also be farewelled at the station by the Mayor. Serving members of Territorial forces who have already gone into camp from the Wairarapa are: Privates A. C. Golder and C. E. Clarke, transport drivers, Hawke’s Bay Regiment; Privates G. M. lorns and A. M. Sanson, C Company, Hawke’s Bay Regiment; Private C. E. Goodhue, machine gun platoon; Sergeant A. M. Kennedy, C Company. Hawke's Bay Regiment; Trooper E. A. Riddiford. Wellington East-coast Mounted Rifles, all of whom have gone to Trentham. and Sergeants C. A. Newland and J. R. Johnston, machine gun company. Hawke’s Bay Regiment, who have proceeded to Burnham.
The higher age limit of men has been raised, so that recruits up to 40 can be accepted for the special military force. In the case of warrant officers and N.C.l.’s, specialist and certain tradesmen specially suitable for employment with the forces, the new age limit may be departed from at the discretion of the officer commanding, but men must be physically fit for service abroad.
