A STOCKING WARDROBE
PAYS IN THE LONG RUN. All women have their pet economies —some save on hats, some on shoes, some on “undies.” And some on silk stockings. But economising on silk stockings—well, it simply isn’t economy! Owning just one or two pairs and wearing them all the time wears them out in simply no time. Try, if you possibly can, to have a stocking wardrobe of at least a dozen pairs—six or seven is the absolutely bare minimum. Then, don’t wear one or two pairs till they’re worn out; rotate about eight pairs, and you'll be amazed at how much longer they wear. This year, of course, with skirts still going up, stockings are becoming more important than they’ve been for years. So, if your legs aren’t quite perfect, it will pay you to lend strict attention to style and colour this year. “Sheer” is to be all the rage. Transparent, delicate fabrics that look as though a puff of wind would blow them away. (But if you look after them you’ll find they last just as long; be careful to wash them as soon as you take them off and never, if you can help it, wear the same pair two days running.) , And when you’re buying the stockings—ask about this new process some manufacturers are using in making silk stockings. Vita-Bloom, I think it’s called. It’s wonderful the difference it makes to sheers — they look nicer, last longer and are much, much stronger. And the colours! If you can’t find a shade to suit every dress and costume in your wardrobe this year, you never will! There’s “Bion-Tan,” “Burness,” “Tulip,” “Ti-Shan” and dozens more—but those seem to be the most fashionable. Ask your hosiery shop about them.
