ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
(“Times-Age” Special.)
The annual meeting of the Automobile Association (Wairarapa), Incorporated, was held in Featherston on Thursday night, the President, Mr H. Lawson, presiding. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs D. L. Taverner, and W. S. Hill (Carterton) and Messrs H. Buck and F. W. Smith (Featherston).' The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: Patron: Mr W. Howard Booth (re-elect-ed).President: Mr H. Lawson (unopposed) Vice-presidents: Messrs R. W. Roydhouse and H. J. Jones (re-elect-ed). Executive Committee: Messrs C. J Nix, J. W. Card, J. C. Varnham, T. Lang (Featherston); F. C. Bunny and F J Nicholls (Grey town), Gordon Hughan, H. E. Jackson, D. L. Taverner, W S Hill (Carterton), W. H. Jackson D. B. Carrick and A. T. P. Hubbard (Masterton), R. W. McLaren (Martinborough). Auditor. Mr C. W. Ritchie. Representative on the W.A.A.M.I. Co., ' Mr R. W. Roydhouse . Mr H E. Jackson moved that in the interests of road safety a small transfer star be issued to members who had not had an accident through their own fault during the year, and that the star be changed in colour each consecutive year for three years. He contended that all members would be only too anxious to obtain the stars, and this would lead to a greater security on the roads. Mr Roydhouse seconded the motion. Mr G. Brandon objected to the proposal on the ground that it would lead to dissatisfaction amongst members, and that the matter of deciding who was to blame in accidents did not rest with the Association. The President, and Messr F. C. Bunny and F. J. Nicholls also spoke against the motion, which was lost on the voices.
It was resolved that the chairman s honorarium be fixed at £7O per annum and the auditor's fee £25 per annum. On the motion of Mr Hayes it was resolved that it be a recommendation to the committee that the annual subscription of soldiers on active service overseas be suspended, and that they be kept financial on the Association’s books.
The President moved that a hearty vote of thanks and appreciation be passed to Mr R. W. Roydhouse, who had been the Association’s representative on the North Island Motor Union for years past, and appreciation expressed for the work he had done. — The motion was carried by acclamation.
Mr R. Barton brought up the matter of indiscriminate snowballing of motor cars during snowstorms, and asked that some action might be taken against offenders. He also asked members to report specific instances of offences with full details to the Association, and appropriate action would be taken.
Mr H. Buck asked that the committee approach the Featherston County Council with a request that a bridge, some twenty chains from Mr Barton’s property, be enlarged sufficiently to carry off water.
