EKETAHUNA
WAR EMERGENCY COMMITTEES FORMED. ("Times-Age” Special.) The various district organisations were well represented at a meeting called by the Mayor and Eketahuna County chairman to form a war emergency organisation. After Mr Carruthers had outlined the proposed scheme and several speakers had referred to the matter the following committees were appointed: — Executive: The Mayor and County Chairman, Mr A. H. Herbert, with the member for the district ex-officio, the County Clc-rk and Engineer. Controller of Supplies: Mr W. Simpson. Transport: The County Engineer, Mr W. Dufflll. Information: Mr G. A. Hansen. R.S.A.: Mr T. Hancock. Fire, law and order: Constable McCowan. Medical and nursing: Dr. E. M. Simmers and Mrs Simmers. It was pointed out that each controller would have the right to appoint a deputy, each to be a member of the Central Committee and to be responsible for the section over which their jurisdiction applies. Mr W. N. Richardson would supply the information needed. Each controller’s duty would include the setting up of a committee. Mr W. F. Taylor, President of the local Red Cross Society said the branch was prepared to assist in the organisation scheme. The Society had been in existence for eight months and the -first section had completed its first aid course Another section was being organised.
